Her most notable role was that of Teri an ardent attorney Teri Jospehson on the Showtime television series Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name upon her marriage. Contractor who was born in Mumbai and was a resident of Nigeria for seven years, had a wide range of trips and experiences in the world of culture at very young. She attended boarding school at the age of 7 to 9 in London. Later the family moved back home to Toronto (Canada) which is where they were raised for her entire life. Then, in Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics and trained as an classical ballerina. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts. It's a high school that teaches arts where she did not only take classes in theater but also performed too. At the age of 16 and after more than 10 years of dance Contractor discovered she was looking to study acting professionally. After graduating high school, she was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Toronto, where she completed a masters degree in theater and a dual major in sociology and psychology. Contractor was a student who'd spent a year in university, went on to audition at an open call for Pericles, at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canada] and won the role. Her performance was lauded for the 92 shows she appeared in. The play won her the award in 2002 for the best production of the Year from Canadian critics. The opportunity was presented to her to enroll in the Stratford Conservatory, which accepts only eight men and four woman to take a course in classical theater. Contractor eagerly accepted. Contractor got a place in the next season of productions and was offered the role of Hermia In A Midsummer Night's Dream.
